A total of 11,140 people participated and saved over 190,000 pieces of disposable tableware, 70,000 paper cups, and 1,340,000 plastic bags in 3 months. Employees also share their own tips about reducing personal waste on the internal website, and there are now 233 articles on the discussion forum.

Water Conservation – Water Conservation Experts

In order to raise the awareness of water conservation, we not only respond internally, but also hope that all agents around Taiwan will become water conservation experts, and invite policyholders to join us. Moreover, we worked with the Water Resources Agency and Ministry of Education in organizing Water Saving Tri-project Events. So that student group insurance service agents promote water conservation concepts in schools to deeply embed them in children's hearts.

1st Project -Forming the Concept of Water Conservation

Organizing water conservation workshops, lectured by Ministry of Education around Taiwan and training employees to become seeded lecturers. Lecture included climate change impact, knowledge of water resources in Taiwan and the water-saving techniques. 11 water conservation workshops participated in by a total of 598 employees; A total of 9,300 employees took online courses.

2nd Project -Training students to become water-saving envoys on campus

Assigning seeded lecturers to promote related concepts to elementary students and the water-saving techniques at schools and home, hoping to deeply raise the awareness of water saving in children’s mind. 35 sessions to date participated in by a total of more than 3,600 teachers and students.

3rd Project -Setting up rainwater harvesting on campus

Promoting the reuse of rainwater and encourage elementary schools around Taiwan to make proposals and inviting experts from the Water Resources Agency and the academia to select suitable proposals for our subsidy and implementation. Completed set up of 21 campus rainwater harvesting.

Energy Conservation – Energy Conservation Guardian

According to government statistics, over 80% of electricity in Taiwan is generated by thermal power, and emissions have made air pollution more severe. Cathay Life completes a GHG inventory of all business sites around Taiwan every year to understand the status of its carbon emissions, and periodically uses various internal channels, such as, electricity saving competition, special programs, e-newsletters, and game apps, to promote concepts of energy conservation.

From June to September, we organize the programs of “Interactive Q&As on Electricity Conservation.” This program features lively and entertaining content focusing on four main areas-lighting, air conditioning, elevator, and electricity equipment. Total participants have reached 24,679. Besides, we also launched electricity saving competitions, in which electricity consumption volumes by individual departments in summer were calculated in comparison to that of the same period in the previous year, then we offered prize money to the top 3 departments in electricity saving performance.

We co-developed the “Save the Earth” mobile application with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Using augmented reality (AR) technologies, this application simulates the ways in which carbon reduction can be achieved in our everyday routines. Besides promoting mobile app to our policyholders, we dispatched our student group insurance service agents to promote this app on campus, thus providing schools with more environmental education resources and improving the effect of learning.
